NRA Basic Pistol Course -- Phase II

Course Length: 5 to 6 hours

The National Rifle Association’s (NRA) Basic Pistol course is the platform from which other advanced courses are taught. This course is recognized nationally as the pinnacle of basic pistol instruction. Several states and municipalities across the United States utilize this course as the prerequisite for obtaining a concealed firearms permit / concealed handgun license.

Once students complete the classroom and range portion of the NRA Basic Pistol Course, they are prepared to safely participate in learning more advanced skills. Some of these advance skills include the use of firearms for personal protection in and outside the home. Additional training opportunities will be discussed during the delivery of this course.

This class meets the State of Colorado Concealed Carry Permit requirement.

The NRA Basic Pistol -- Phase I course (online) is a prerequisite for attending this course.

Course Information:

NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course Course Goal: "To teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude for owning and using a pistol safely"

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is a two-part course consisting of an e-learning portion, Phase I (completed online-in your own time frame) at www.nraonlinetraining.org and a hands-on practical portion, Phase II conducted at a range under the guidance and supervision of an NRA-Certified Instructor. The course is intended for all adults regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation. Some of the topics in the course include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, selecting and storing a pistol, the fundamentals of shooting, and pistol inspection and maintenance.

When you enroll in the online course, you create a personal identification number (PIN). When you successfully complete the course, printing your certificate activates that PIN. You have 60 days to enroll in a Phase II Instructor Led session.  After completion of the e-learning portion go to www.nraonlinetraining.org – and register. Bring your certificate and PIN number with you to class. During the instructor-led-training portion of the course, an NRA Certified Instructor will validate comprehension and application of gun safety rules; range protocol; proper handling; loading and unloading procedures; application of pistol shooting fundamentals; stable shooting positions; live fire; and a final shooting qualification.
